Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Paul D'Arcy, one of Newmarket's upwardly mobile trainers, is on the move to new premises as he seeks to upgrade his string and home in on some lucrative prizes.

D'Arcy, who rode over 200 winners and spent 10 years as one of Sir Michael Stoute's chief test pilots on the gallops, is not moving far – just a few doors down on the town's Hamilton Road, but his new home, Green Ridge Stables, has facilities that should take his career to another level.

"There's six acres of land, which can be developed," D'Arcy says, "and a large indoor school, which means I have greater control of the environment in which the horses work."

The stable has been bought from the Kuwaiti backers of the trainer Kamil Mahdi by two of D'Arcy's owners, Peter Gleeson and Julian Smith, who have the Zetland Stakes winner, Forest Magic, and the Guineas hope Indian Haven with the trainer.

"Indian Haven is going for a £75,000 race at Lingfield on 15 March," D'Arcy says. "It's worth more than the Craven Stakes or Free Handicap. Gerard Butler's Elusive City is likely to be in opposition and David Loder is sure to have a few lined up for it."
