The sporting week ahead (20/03/11)
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fabio Capello announces his England squad to take on Wales in the Euro qualifiers next Saturday. It will be followed by a game of Pass The Armband. Expect Jack Wilshere to be given the captaincy for at least the next 20 years – or is that 20 minutes? It stinks of filthy lucre in west London as Chelsea lavishly entertain Manchester City, while in Glasgow the prevailing stench is of gunpowder as Celtic and Rangers meet for the 864th time this season in the CIS Cup final.
Tomorrow
Has the Cricket World Cup come to an end? Don't be silly. Just a couple of rest days before the final six months of the tournament. At the top of League One, MK Dons take on visitors Peterborough.
Tuesday
Something called the Uefa Congress in Paris. Sounds a bit rude. At least old Sepp won't be sticking his oar in.
Wednesday
The first of the Super Eight matches at the Cricket World Cup. Expect a rush of British gold as the Track Cycling World Championships begin in Holland. There may be a new star in the offing: Jessica Varnish will be applying herself on the boards in the team sprint in Apeldoorn.
Thursday
England's footie Under-21s play a friendly in Denmark, while their Scottish counterparts are in Belgium.
Friday
Harry Redknapp, Milan Mandaric and Peter Storrie are up on court today facing charges of tax evasion. Expect 'Arry to pick up a couple of bargain players while he's there. Well, he always was a good judge. But when it comes to these allegations, it's all as clear as mud, m'lud. Meanwhile Northern Ireland play a Euro qualifier in Serbia, though the pick of the ties has to be the holders, Spain, against the Czech Republic. And there's also a tasty bottom-of-the-table clash in rugby union's Aviva Premiership between Sale Sharks and Leeds.
Saturday
Wales v England? Hasn't the Six Nations ended? Sorry, it's a European Championship qualifier. The Republic of Ireland also entertain the Macedonians. In the oddball game, it's Bath against Leicester Tigers. And the Formula One season tries to avoid stalling on the grid again after the cancellation in Bahrain; it's qualifying in Melbourne. Obviously the most important fixture of the day is the Boat Race, as a bunch of beardy postgrads with American accents row boats down the Thames. Splendid.
