The sporting week ahead (10/04/11)
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fine top-flight football on offer with Blackpool's rock DJ (Campbell) back to leave Arsenal in a spin. North of the Border – and not for any blindingly obvious reasons – something called the Alba Challenge Cup final is taking place in Perth between Queen of the South and Ross County. Meanwhile, there's a Heineken Cup quarter-final for Northampton at home to Ulster and let's hope Rory McIlroy is still very much in contention going into the back nine of golf's US Masters.
Tomorrow
Do not expect to see King Kenny don a red cravat and try to compete with Roberto Mancini in the fashion stakes as Man City go to Anfield.
Tuesday
The second leg of Manchester United versus Chelsea, plus a crucial night in the Championship (aren't they all?) with Sheff U v Cardiff probably the pick of the crop. Brighton will almost have wrapped up the League One title if they see off Dagenham & Redbridge.
Wednesday
It's dead rubber night in the Champions' League as Spurs thank their fans for a memorable European campaign and surprise package Schalke host Internazionale with a three-goal head start.
Thursday
It is Europa League quarter-finals night but, frankly, I wouldn't bother. We're in the second week of April and already it's week two of the County Championship. Title-holders Notts are at home to Hampshire.
Friday
Somewhat incredibly it is actually 22 years since the Hillsborough disaster. There is a memorial service in Liverpool this afternoon. The other club who were involved in that fateful semi-final, Notts Forest, go to Norwich in the Championship tonight, while another club who have been touched by tragedy – Bradford – go to Southend.
Saturday
An FA Cup semi-final at Wembley which would undoubtedly have made a better final, as both halves of Manchester collide. In the Premier League, relegation six-pointers for Blackpool v Wigan and West Ham v Aston Villa. In the Scottish Cup, a semi-final at Hampden that would not have made a better final – Motherwell v St Johnstone. Elsewhere, the World Snooker Championships get rolling in Sheffield while Amir Khan fights Northern Ireland's Paul McCloskey in Manchester – sadly there will be no one there because they'll all be at the Wembley semi-final.
