Surely the greatest friendly of all time as Everton pit their wits against... Everton! David Moyes's boys play "Chile's sixth most successful team", founded in 1909 when a group of Anglo-Chilean teenagers formed a football club and named it after the English team who had just made a pioneering visit to South America. There you go, three years I've been attempting to do this job and you've finally learnt something.

Proper football. It might seem like five minutes since the end of last season – and apparently there was a World Cup on – but the Championship is back, with canary-yellow shirts all the rage at Norwich v Watford.

Opening day for the relegated clubs as Hull entertain Swansea, Portsmouth are sent to Coventry and Burnley welcome Nottingham Forest. A potential rugby league humdinger as St Helens play Leeds in the Challenge Cup semi, while it's day two of the Second Test between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston.
