Liam Tancock will not defend his 50 metres backstroke title after he failed to make the cut for the Great Britain team selected for the World Championships in Barcelona.

Tancock had been under threat after the trials in Sheffield, where he finished second in the 50m and 100m events, and his name was not among the 27 announced yesterday for next month’s competition.

Michael Jamieson is the sole Olympic medallist on the team following Rebecca Adlington’s retirement. Jazmin Carlin will travel to Spain after missing the 2012 Olympics because of illness.
