Who would have thought it – a Premier League table-topping encounter between Bolton and Manchester City tomorrow thanks to their respective 4-0 thrashings of newly promoted teams. I backed City (at 9-2) for the Premier League in the hope that the punch of Sergio Aguero and some added midfield invention might give this expensive Frankenstein's monster a bit more grace. The game will be a test of my instincts – £20 win City, 5-6 with Betfred.
Until the neighbours won, Sir Alex Ferguson would have been chuffed that Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool had all dropped points. But he has lost defenders and must trust David de Gea for Monday's game with Spurs, who warmed up by crushing Hearts. Spurs are overdue a result at Old Trafford after several unlucky breaks – notably the disallowed Pedro Mendes lob that landed yards over the line. Chance the draw, £10 at 3-1, at William Hill.

It moves into new territory by staging a fourth day and its most historic race, the Ebor Handicap, today after being a strictly midweek pleasure. Mount Athos, a course-and-distance winner last year, can hit the heights in the Ebor – £10 each-way, 12-1 at Ladbrokes.
