Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sailing: One of the bitterest chapters in America's Cup history has officially ended with the new and old champions agreeing to drop their legal claims against each other.

The agreement comes a month and a half after BMW Oracle Racing, owned by American software tycoon Larry Ellison, routed the defending champion Alinghi of Switzerland in Valencia, Spain. In the settlement announced yesterday, San Francisco's Golden Gate Yacht Club, which backs BMW Oracle, says it will drop its breach of fiduciary duty claim against Société Nautique de Genève, which backs Alinghi.

Canas decides to retire

Tennis: Argentina’s Guillermo Canas has announced his retirement at the age of 32 due to a persistent right wrist injury. The former world No 8 made the news public at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami yesterday. “I wanted to be 100 per cent sure when I made the announcement,” Canas said. “I tried again at the US Open and I felt too much pain. I played two exhibitions in Argentina in December, but it was not good. My wrist just won’t let me play.”
