The Good: Greece's giant-killing

With the world, let alone Greece, frozen in the financial crisis, it was uplifting to see Fernando Santos's side reach the quarter-finals of the European Championship after knocking Russia out of the tournament on Saturday evening. Giorgos Karagounis's winner on the stroke of half-time sparked mass delirium in his recession-stricken country. Greece may not perhaps be able to emulate their tournament triumph of 2004, but the current crop of players will give their nation renewed hope the further they advance in Poland and Ukraine.

The Bad: Davidson's cruel break

Danger is a byword for racing drivers but Anthony Davidson would not have envisaged awaking this morning with a broken back. The 33-year-old struck the Ferrari he was lapping in the Le Mans 24-Hour endurance race yesterday, his Toyota taking off and twisting 360 degrees in the air before ploughing into the barriers. Davidson's ensuing tweet spoke of his befuddlement. "Well that was a big one!" he wrote. "Lying in a French hospital with a broken back wasn't what I had in mind at this stage in the race."

The Odd: Parma get shirty

Fans often feel let down by their club. Poor results, subdued performances and high ticket prices infuriate followers, but supporters of Parma can't complain of not being acknowledged. Although they may feel saddened their side missed out on qualification for next season's Europa League, the club's new shirt features the names of all the season ticket holders – with the identities shown in grey on the white and black kit.
