Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Good...
Roberto Martinez
The Swans manager has his side knocking on the door of the Championship play-off places and pushing for a first FA Cup quarter-final since 1964. In Saturday's draw with Fulham, Martinez's men dominated, playing a fluent passing game that would grace the top flight. "Sometimes you don't get the results your performances deserve and today was one of those days," said the Spaniard. More of this and their day will come. Soon.
Adam Voges
Inspired Australia to a one-run Twenty20 win over New Zealand in Sydney. The Black Caps were on course for the victory with Brendon McCullum in full flow. But when he launched a ball down the ground, seemingly for six, Voges made a catch at long-on, and, before his momentum took him over the rope, threw the ball back in, regained his balance, then sprinted back on to make the catch. Again.
The Bad...
Michelle Wie
Trying for a first win since claiming the 2003 US women's amateur public links title aged 13, the Stanford University student enjoyed a three-stroke lead with eight to play at the SBS Open in Hawaii, only to hit a double-bogey and see her chances fade. "She played smart for about 10 holes," said Angela Stanford, the winner. That's about eight too few, proving Wie needed a Stanford education to help her to learn to count.
Pitch battle II
"The staff have done a fantastic job," said match referee Alan Hurst of the hastily arranged third Test at the Antigua Rec, "they have resolved most of the issues." Sadly, they didn't remember to cover the run-up areas, so the start was delayed. Whatever next?
And The Odd...
Moles 1 Leominster Town 0
The Herefordshire Premier Division outfit must dig deep to beat their latest opponents. Their council-owned ground is ravaged by molehills that the authority is refusing to tackle, and no alternative sites are available that meet the league's grading conditions. It's not making a mountain out of it to say the hole club is on the brink of going under, unless they can worm their way out of trouble.
