From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Neil Robertson has vowed to be a role model for his sport after winning the World Championship at the Crucible in yesterday's early hours.

Robertson, who has flown to Oslo where his Norwegian girlfriend, Mille, is due to give birth any day, admitted he will have to be squeaky clean after the John Higgins scandal. "It's something I was aware of before this final," the Australian said. "There's a lot of added responsibility now and it comes with the package. But what happened with John won't overshadow [my title] at all back home. They won't talk about it, it'll be all about this.

"I was thinking there's no way in the world the snooker gods are going to allow me to be world champion and then a dad a few days after, it's just not going to happen. It's absolutely incredible, an amazing feeling."
