Austria's Marcel Hirscher slid out of a World Cup slalom in Kitzbuehel yesterday and lost the overall championship lead, as rivals questioned his sportsmanship. Italy's Cristian Deville won the race and Croatia's Ivica Kostelic leapfrogged Hirscher as overall leader.
Hirscher, meanwhile, came under fire for his victory in Zagreb on 5 January. Footage from the Croatian race was re-examined and showed that Hirscher should have been disqualified for straddling a gate.
"We ran a great event and we're not sure the real winner was crowned," said Kostelic's father and coach, Ante.
