O'Sullivan, who opened his challenge for the £62,000 first prize by whitewashing Quinten Hann 5-0 and followed up with a 5-1 win over Rob Milkins, won a tentative opening frame but then pulled clear of Doherty with breaks of 95, 65, 48 and 78 to seal a runaway success.

"I've been in good form and the balls have been falling right for me," said O'Sullivan, who has now won 10 of his 11 outings so far this season.

He now faces Graeme Dott, who reached the semi-finals without having to pot a ball. Dott received a by after his scheduled opponent, John Higgins, pulled out after honouring a commitment to be best man at his brother's wedding.

In today's other semi-final Jimmy White will meet Mark Williams, the world champion. White maintained his superb start to the season with a 5-3 win over Brian Morgan, the conqueror of both Stephen Hendry and Peter Ebdon in the earlier rounds. Williams progressed thanks to a 5-3 victory over Paul Hunter.
