Noseda's Kingdom is Trophy favourite

Polar Kingdom was yesterday made the 7-1 favourite by the sponsors for the William Hill Trophy on Timeform Charity Day at York on Saturday.

Jeremy Noseda's charge won a Newbury handicap last time out to earn his position at the head of the betting for the six-furlong sprint handicap for three-year-olds. Mick Channon, who took the race last year with Cotton House, is responsible for second favourite Nasmatt, fourth in a hot Newmarket handicap earlier this month.

Pat Eddery cancelled plans to ride at Nottingham and Windsor yesterday because of a cold. Mike Hawkett, his agent, said: "He's got a bit of a cold about him and he's come back from France feeling a bit jaded about it, so he said he'd best not ride today. There was quite a lot of pressure on this weekend with the Oaks, Derby and French Oaks." Hawkett said Eddery was expecting to be fit to ride today.

Summer View ran out one of the shortest-priced winners ever when hardly having to break out of a canter to win at odds of 1-40 in the D H Lawrence Stakes at Nottingham yesterday.

The Roger Charlton-trained four-year-old was rated 81lb and 60lb respectively higher than the one and three quarter lengths runner-up Four Men and Mehmaas, who was a further two and a half lengths away in third. Summer View opened at 1-33 and there were two bets of £6,600 to win £200 and one of £1,650 to win £50 at that price. After he had briefly touched 1-50, one punter had £1,000 to win £25 at the returned price of 1-40. The Tote paid its minimum of 1-20.
