UFC president Dana White believes a Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor rematch is likely to take place in 2019.

Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round of their UFC lightweight title fight to defend his crown and preserve his undefeated record.

But it is for the huge brawl immediately after the event that the fight is remembered for.

Nurmagomedov climbed out of the cage to fight McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach Dillon Danis, as the Irishman was attacked by two members of his opponent’s team, resulting in both fighters being hit with temporary suspensions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Talk of a rematch began as soon as the dust settled – and White has said a 2019 contest is possible.

I think a lot of people want to see that fight,' White told TMZ Sports.

“We gotta see how this thing [plays out]. Obviously, again, we haven't gone in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That's gotta happen and when it does we can figure out how this whole thing plays out.

“Is Max [Holloway] moving to 155lbs…Tony Ferguson's obviously in the mix…we gotta see how this thing plays out.'

When asked whether the fight could happen this year, White added: “Yeah, I do.

“Obviously, guys are going to have to win and it depends how long the suspensions are, but yeah, as long as everything goes right this fight should happen.”
