From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Irishman was in Manhattan facing charges relating to an altercation at a UFC event in April and remained there ahead of expected confirmation of his return to the sport, where he is set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov later this year.
As excitement around the announcement builds, fans were waiting outside of McGregor’s hotel, leading to the ‘Notorious’ having an unexpected stare-down with the UK’s own ‘Battling Brexiteer’.
As he left where he was staying, McGregor had an unexpected chance meeting with Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg, who was walking past with his children.
Unsurprisingly, neither man recognised the other in this bizarre clash of worlds, which was caught on camera by a UFC fan documenting his meeting with McGregor.
McGregor has not fought in UFC since knocking out Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 before moving into boxing to face Floyd Mayweather in one of the sport’s biggest ever paydays.
He did all but confirm his return to the Octagon in a recent Instagram post however, where he was in his fighting gear with the caption, “Honey, I’m home”.
