Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Christian Malcolm has again broken the Welsh 200m record as he qualified for the final of the men's competition at the World Championships in Edmonton.

Malcolm clocked a time of 20.08 in his semi-final, where he will face Greece's Olympic champion Konstadinos Kederis.

Also in the final will be fellow Briton Marlon Devonish, who qualified in a time of 20.29 seconds.

Malcolm said: "It's great to set two personal bests but I am feeling smashed now. I have just got to keep on telling myself it's just one more race now.

"The aim was always to get to the final and from there it's possible to win. The race is open because there is no Maurice Greene or Ato Boldon, although they are not the force in the 200 that they are over 100m."

However, there was disappointment in the men's 110m hurdles for Tony Jarrett who was disqualified from his semi-final after making two false starts.

Marion Jones bounced back from her shock defeat in the women's 100m to set a time of 22.70seconds in qualification for the semi finals of the 200m, the fastest time was Cydonie Mothersil's Cayman Island record of of 22.54 seconds.
