Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Lermontov was the only withdrawal yesterday when the final declarations were made for the St Leger at Doncaster tomorrow. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Air Marshall, winner of the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, remains favourite. Stoute will also be represented by Dalampour, third to Air Marshall at York.

Other fancies are John Dunlop's Millenary, who beat Air Marshall in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood, John Gosden's Savoire Vivre and Michael Jarvis's Marienbard, second to Air Marshall at York. Littlepacepaddocks is the only filly in the race. Ireland will be represented by Rostropovich, Media Puzzle and the supplemented Chimes At Midnight.

Giant's Causeway was yesterday given the go-ahead to run in tomorrow's Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. The "Iron Horse", winner of the the Eclipse, Sussex and International Stakes on his last three starts, was among seven left in the Group One contest. Aidan O'Brien, Giant's Causeway's trainer, also runs Apollo Victoria and Manhattan. Giant's Causeway deputises for his owners' Montjeu who runs in the Prix Foy at Longchamp on Sunday.

O'Brien said: "The horse did a nice canter and he's well. He is heavier than ever but that's the way it's been with him since he started to improve." Giant's Causeway's dangers appear to be Best Of The Bests, winner of the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville, and Greek Dance, who won the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich last time. Germany will be represented by Sumitas, second to Greek Dance in Munich and to Dubai Millennium in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot. The French trainer André Fabre runs Indian Danehill, who beat Greek Dance in the Prix Ganay earlier in the season. The going at Leopardstown is good.

IRISH CHAMPION STAKES (Leopardstown tomorrow) : Ladbrokes: 8-11 Giant's Causeway, 4-1 Best Of The Bests, 5-1 Indian Danehill, 6-1 Greek Dance, 12-1 Sumitas, 66-1 Apollo Victoria, 100-1 Manhattan.
