Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

London Knights ended their run of home defeats against Sheffield Steelers on Sunday with a 5-1 win over the Sekonda Superleague champions.

The Steelers had won the two teams' last six meetings in the capital, but goals from Kim Ahlroos, Nate Leslie, Maurizio Mansi, Mike Barrie and Sean Blanchard put the Knights 5-0 up before Scott Allison's reply for the Steelers.

Manchester Storm missed the chance to move off the bottom as they lost 4-2 to Nottingham Panthers at the MEN Arena. Two late goals from Steve Moria and Patrik Wallenberg gave the Panthers their second successive win in Manchester.

The Storm have released their former NHL defender Justin Hocking. The 26-year-old, who played one game in the NHL for Los Angeles Kings, has paid the price for some unimpressive displays.

Ayr Scottish Eagles cut Belfast Giants' lead at the top to three points by thrashing Bracknell Bees 9-1. Bracknell took the lead, but Ayr's reply – with nine different scorers – stung the Berkshire club.
