Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Kim Ahlroos scored five minutes from the end of regulation time to earn London Knights a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Panthers at the Docklands Arena.

Chances were rare in the opening period of Sunday night's game but after the first interval Panthers played with a greater drive and almost took the lead when Lee Jinman's shot hit the post.

Nottingham finally broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when Jason Elders scored from a powerplay after referee Andy Carson had called a bench minor on London for having too many men on the ice.

London piled on the pressure in the final session and were rewarded when Ahlroos shot home after good work from Mark Kolesar to take the game into overtime.

Neither side could forge an advantage in the extra five-minute session so both teams had to settle for a point.

Man of the match accolades went to Mark Cadotte for Nottingham and Ahlroos for London. The Knights head coach, Bob Leslie, said: "We came out flat, but we weathered the storm. I'm happy to take six out of the last eight points available to us."
