From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Belfast Giants, the newly-crowned Superleague champions, saw their record-breaking 16-game unbeaten run come to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Manchester Storm on Sunday.

Belfast had not lost to Storm in seven meetings this season, and the defenceman Jason Bowen put them ahead with a rare goal, but Joe Cardarelli tied the match with 14 minutes left. Russ Romaniuk gave Storm, beaten just once in seven home games, the lead six minutes from time and Trevor Gallant sealed a memorable win 16 seconds from time.

London Knights' winless run stretched to eight games after they let slip a two-goal lead in the 2-2 tie at home to Nottingham Panthers. The netminder Joe Watkins helped Bracknell Bees claim a 1-1 tie at Sheffield Steelers. The Great Britain international made 33 saves, and was beaten only by Brad Lauer in the sixth minute. Mark Turner's goal secured the point.
