Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Two tired teams playing their ninth game in 13 days before a small but noisy crowd found it difficult in high temperatures and unforced errors resulted in goals for both sides.
A mis-trap at the top of the English circle gave Malaysia their opening goal in the 16th minute when Boon Chua shot past Simon Mason. Urged on by defender Jon Wyatt England enjoyed their best period before the suspension of David Mathews for dissent put England back on the defensive.
With Mathews back just before the interval England moved forward again and a penetrating pass from Wyatt sent Guy Fordham bursting through before Hall scored at the far post. Three minutes after the break England were in the lead as Hall scored with a reverse-stick shot after a corner.
Within four minutes Malaysia were level, Chairal Anwar taking advantage of a defensive error. There were chances at both ends before, at the death, Wyatt's free-hit evaded a packed circle to reach Pearn who beat the goalkeeper at the far post.
