Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jonty Clarke, one of four players brought into the Great Britain Olympic training squad after the disappointing performances at the Olympic Qualifying event in Madrid in March, has been dropped. This in spite of an outstanding display for his club Reading in last month's Cup final and without playing a single game for the national side.

He is one of four players out of the squad. Guildford's Jason Collins is surprisingly the only player from the Madrid party, so far, to be sacrificed. Reading's Rob Todd and Cannock's Andy West are the other two dropped as squad numbers are cut towards 16 for Athens.

GREAT BRITAIN TRAINING SQUAD: B Garrard, J Wallis, B Hawes, J Peckett (Surbiton), S Mason, T Bertram, M Pearn (Reading), J Ebsworth, R Moore (Teddington), J Lewis, R Garcia (Gross Flottbecker), G Fordham, D Hall (Guildford), M Johnson, M Jones, C Parnham, B Middleton (Cannock), J Goudie (Loughborough Students), D Mathews (Amsterdam) all England; G Dunlop, D Mitchell, G Moodie (Western Wildcats), N Stott (Dundee Wanderers) all Scotland.
