Hockey: Cannock stay on top

Cannock maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premier Division with a 7-2 win against Doncaster, who conceded three goals in the opening 10 minutes. Simon Ramsden converted three penalty corners for the leaders.

Second-placed Reading won 2-1 at Guilford but Loughborough slipped up in third place losing 3-1 to Surbiton for whom Matt Daly scored twice.

James Mulcair, with three goals, helped Teddington to a 4-0 win against St Albans, who are now bottom after Hampstead's 3-2 victory over Canterbury.

In the First Division, the leaders Loughtonians won 2-1 at Chelmsford. Firebrands moved into second place, beating Barford Tigers 4-1 thanks to a Simon Mantell hat-trick.

In an astonishing match, Belper beat Brooklands 5-3 with seven of the eight goals coming in the last quarter of an hour.

In the women's national league it was a successful weekend for the leaders, Slough, who beat Fyffes Leicester 10-0 on Saturday with Jane Smith scoring five.They followed up yesterday with a 6-1 win against Sutton Coldfield in which Smith added a couple more.
