Hockey: Allchin's firepower hits Bankers into play-offs
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Jon Allchin, the 10-goal hero of Sheffield University Bankers' recent 20-0 win against Warrington, followed up with three goals as Bankers ran out 4-0 winners against Wigan at the weekend to clinch the North title and a place in the National League play-offs.
Sheffield joined Crostyx, Leek and Whitchurch, all previously qualified. The men's competition is completed from the South by Old Georgians – who are relative newcomers, having been formed in the mid 1990s – following their 3-1 victory away at Beckenham.
The battle is still very much on in the women's competition, with only Worcester Norton and St Austell having so far qualified. In the East, Sevenoaks are ahead of Letchworth on goal difference, with both teams facing mid-table opponents this coming weekend in their final games.
It is also neck and neck in the North, where Ben Rhydding moved back ahead of Timperley, again on goal difference. In the South, Epsom, who have led for most of the season, were held to a goalless draw by Horsham last Saturday and have only a point to spare over Wimbledon, who have two games left against Epsom's one.
