Evander Holyfield has agreed to a bout against the International Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion, James Toney, on 4 October. Holyfield, the four-times world heavyweight champion, had been unable to arrange a fight with the World Boxing Association cruiserweight champion, Roy Jones Jnr.
Holyfield, 40, said at a press conference yesterday that he had resisted demands from the promoter Don King for rights to future bouts in negotiations for a Jones fight. King already owns promotional rights to Jones's first defences of the WBA crown.
"They tried to tie me into a long-term contract and I won't do that," Holyfield said.
