Tom Daley and Max Brick win diving gold in Delhi

Tom Daley and Max Brick delivered gold for England in the diving on Day Nine of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Daley and Brick triumphed in the 10metre synchro watched by London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe.

Meanwhile Jen McIntosh struck shooting gold for Scotland in the women's singles 50m rifle prone with Wales' Johanne Brekke taking the bronze.

Daley and Brick took their title ahead of Australia with Canada third and Malaysia last in a four-team final.

The pair moved into the lead following their second dive and entered the final round 11.52points ahead of Australia in a straight fight between the two.

The Australians produced a well-executed, intricate effort on their last attempt but it was not enough to dislodge the English pair.

Brick and Daley enjoyed a solid final dive to end with 439.65 to beat the Australians by 15.84pts.

A delighted Daley, who has had injury problems to contend with this year, said: "We did one of the hardest dives in our list but we pulled it off today and we got a massive personal best as well.

"We wanted to come here and do well and to get the gold was the icing on the cake."

McIntosh was in stunning form from the start of the competition and missed just three shots in the six series to beat the Games record of 590 points set by Carolyn Quigley of Malaysia in 1998.

McIntosh, who is coached by her father, said: "I'm lost for words. It's absolutely fantastic."

England ground out a 7-5 win over world champions Samoa to reach the semi-finals of the rugby sevens tournament.

England trailed to Alatasi Tupou's early try but responded by taking the lead before the interval when Royal Navy flanker Greg Barden finished off a penalty move and skipper Ben Gollings converted.

England, silver medallists four years ago, controlled the second half to book a semi final date with three-time gold medallists New Zealand at 1430 local time (1000BST).

"Samoa have been our nemesis in the last couple of years but we knew we were capable of beating them and we really kept our heads today," said Gollings.

Samoa go into the Plate semi final against Wales, who scored twice against New Zealand through Aaron Shingler and Ifan Evans but went down 31-10.
