Ethiopia claimed a double victory at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday as Milkesa Mengesha won the men’s competition while Tigist Ketema triumphed over the women’s field.

Mengesha, 24, clocked a time of two hours, three minutes, 17 seconds to finish ahead of Kenya’s Cyrbian Kotut in a two-horse race that came down the final kilometre.

Ketema, 26, stormed to victory in a stunning solo run and her effort of two hours, 16 minutes and 42 seconds was more than two minutes ahead of Mestawot Fikir and Bosena Mulatie.

Ketema’s time was the third fastest in the history of the race, while Kikir and Mulatie completed a clean sweep of the podium for Ethiopia.
