20km walker fails test to deflate hosts
For the host nation, it was the morning after the night before. Following the highs of Tuesday night – when the Indian men's hockey team defeated England on penalties in the semi-finals and the home nation surpassed their previous highest gold medal tally – came the low of a positive drug test.
Rani Yadav, who finished sixth in the women's 20km race walk, had registered positive for the anabolic agent 19-Norandrosterone. It was the third drugs case of the Games and the most serious, given that a steroid was involved rather than the stimulant found in the other two cases. Yadav is now provisionally suspended.
