From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Indian Combined Univ 149-9 England A 553

Jason Gallian of Lancashire gave himself out yesterday after reaching 100 for England A against an inexperienced Combined Universities side in Delhi.

England A, who amassed 553 in their first innings, had reduced the students to 149 for 9 by the close of the second day. Gallian, who had resumed on 60, goes down in the scorebook as "retired out."

The England A manager, Phil Neale, said: "Jason was finding it all very easy. So once he had got his 100 he decided to come off. In that situation you can get into bad habits if you carry on."

The 23-year-old Gallian also took two wickets in successive deliveries with his medium pace as the students slumped to 48 for 3. Mark Ramprakash, the vice-captain, led the team in the field during the final session as Alan Wells took a rest and watched from the boundary.

Neale said: "It was good to be able to give him a chance to captain the side in the field. There were always a few question marks against him in the past about his maturity and his temperament. But he's overcome that."
