From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brentford and Luton continue to set the pace at the top after both won on their travels yesterday. Two goals from Nick Forster helped leaders Brentford cruise to a 4-1 win at Plymouth. A 25-yard shot from Forster opened the scoring with only seven minutes at Home Park and, despite Neil Illman's chipped equaliser on the hour, the Bees maintained their one- point advantage over second-placed Luton when Carl Asaba, Joe Omigie and Forster all scored in the final 20 minutes.

However, the Hatters stay hot on the leaders' heels thanks to Tony Thorpe's 17th and 18th goals of the season in Luton's 2-1 win at Gillingham. Iffy Onuora provided the Gills' goal.

Luton now boast a five-point advantage over Bury, whose game at Crewe was called off because of frost, and Millwall, who lost 2-0 at home to Peterborough. Scott Houghton scored both goals for the Posh at the New Den.

Stockport moved level on points with Bury and Millwall with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Wrexham. The Welsh club fell to their first home defeat of the season despite taking a two-goal lead through Steve Watkin and Steve Morris. Alun Armstrong and Jim Gannon levelled the scores, before Tony Dinning crowned a remarkable comeback by Stockport with the winning goal from the penalty spot.

Wrexham's defeat allowed Watford into sixth spot with a goalless draw at home to Notts County. Gary Owers volleyed Bristol City's winner in a 3-2 victory over Shrewsbury with only three minutes left at Ashton Gate, while City's neighbours, Bristol Rovers, lost 1-0 at Bournemouth.
