Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Virgil van Dijk ahead of their Club World Cup final against Flamengo.

The Dutch centre-back trained with the rest of the squad on Friday morning with Geoginio Wijnaldum the only absentee.

Van Dijk missed Liverpool’s 2-1 semi-final victory against Monterrey on Wednesday due to illness, despite training the previous day.

However, Jurgen Klopp insisted the defender’s participation in the final is still a doubt with Van Dijk returning to the team’s hotel immediately after the open session in Qatar.

“We will see. Virgil was part of training today, Gini has had a session today, so we will see how it will look at the end,” he said.

“We have no new injury concerns. It was Wednesday when we played and now it is Friday.

“We use each hour for recovery so that is what we did. We will see who can line up tomorrow.”

Wijnaldum is almost certain to miss the final after sustaining a hamstring injury during last weekend’s win against Watford.
