World Cup 2018: Mum dresses two-year-old twins in outfits representing opposing teams for every match

A mum has made her two-year-old twins homemade outfits to represent the opposing teams in every World Cup game.

Franciellen Lemes Fernandes, from Florida, decided to undertake the adorable project as a way to learn more about different cultures around the world.

“Knowing that the World Cup would happen soon, I discovered that I knew nothing of the countries, not even their flags,” the crafty mum said.

In order to create the tiny outfits for her daughters Beatriz and Olivia, the mum-of-five spent months researching every nation in the competition.

She said: “I spent three months studying each nation - its cultures and traditions - and I turned that into pictures with the twins.

“The goal was to know more about different cultures and to honour each nation.”

After photographing the twins in outfits for every team - and all 48 scheduled matches, the 32-year-old mum then posts the result online as the games are played.

For the England v Tunisia game, one daughter was dressed as a tiny Beefeater with a tall black hat, while the other was in a traditional North African long white smock.

Fernandes dressed one baby as a pharaoh and her sister as a Ballet Bolshoi dancer for the match between Russia and Egypt.

And, according to the mum, the outfits were made from clothes the children already owned and items from arts and crafts kits around the house - and didn't cost more than £3 each.

As for the key to getting the babies to stay still for their photo shoots, Fernandes revealed the secret was to take the photos after they’re breastfed.

“I have photographed them since they were newborns and my secret is the same - after lunch I breastfeed them and it makes them very relaxed and they sleep,” she said.

Prior to feeding the twins, Fernandes dressed the girls in their tops for their photo shoots, and once they’d fallen asleep, she added accessories.

“It works 98 per cent of the time!”
