Salah has been recovering from a shoulder dislocation that he suffered during a tangle with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final last month.
His participation in the World Cup was consequently put in doubt but a trip to a specialist in Spain days later revealed he would take three weeks to recover – thus making him fit for the final two games of Egypt’s group.
He still could make the first game, against Uruguay on 15th June, although it will be touch and go whether he makes it or not.
Salah posted a photograph on Twitter on Sunday showing himself exercising that damaged left shoulder with a resistance band, with the caption “good feelings…” and was named in Egypt’s 23-man squad a day later.
A post on the Egyptian Football Federation’s Facebook page last week read: “The delegation of the national team was briefed on the recovery programme for the player, who is walking well and aims to join the squad in the World Cup, as well as the determination of the great player to catch up with his team-mates.
“For his part, (team doctor) Mohamed Abou El-Ela said that the period of absence of Salah due to injury will not exceed three weeks.”
