From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The 19-year-old will complete the move, for an undisclosed fee, on June 9 when the summer transfer window opens.
Nevers had not made a first-team appearance for Reading but scored nine goals in 25 games for their under-23 side.
He will initially link up with West Ham’s under-23s at their Chadwell Heath base.
Nevers said: “I’m very excited to join West Ham United.
“This move is probably the biggest step in my career so far. I feel very excited to see what the future holds – there’s a lot of opportunity here.
“It’s exciting to make that jump to a big Premier League club with a good historical foundation. The first team are doing well, and the Academy have got a good reputation with the players they’ve brought through.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully hitting the ground running when I come back for pre-season, and then it all starts from there, from my very first day.”
While Academy Manager Ricky Martin is excited to see Nevers develop at Chadwell Heath: “I’m really excited to wish Thierry a warm welcome to West Ham United.
“Thierry is someone that we’ve been following for the last couple of seasons. He’s put in some very impressive performances, and we’re really excited to introduce him to the U23s squad. We hope he will have a very successful career at the Hammers.”
