Barcelona have finally agreed a deal for Thomas Vermaelen. Arsenal will received £15 million for their captain, with the deal expected to be completed this weekend. Vermaelen was at the Emirates for five years and became the club's captain in 2012 following the departure of Robin van Persie.
Manchester United had been linked with the Belgian defender all summer, but ended their interest in the player after the Gunners requested a swap deal involving England international Chris Smalling.
Manchester City are hoping World Cup finalist Sergio Aguero will sign a new contract. The Argentine could be offered a staggering £210,000-a-week extension in an effort to keep him out of the clutches of the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have made enquiries for two new strikers. The Reds are hoping to possibly sign either Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani. Falcao is currently at Monaco but it is thought he may move to Real Madrid, while Cavani looks set to stay at PSG despite his agent confirming there had been contact from both Liverpool and Arsenal.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will also hope to decide the future of Daniel Agger next week after the Danish defender said his future did not lie with Liverpool.
Agger left Liverpool's pre-season tour of the US early, after reportedly breaking down in tears in the dressing room, but Rodgers will seek a meeting with him next week to decide his future. Arsenal and Barcelona are both believed to be interested in the 29-year-old.
And finally, Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Daley Blind. The young Dutchman is set to leave Ajax after it was revealed by the club's youth coach that he had been training alone since he returned from the World Cup. United boss Louis van Gaal may try to sign Blind having managed him when he was in charge at the Netherlands.
