From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 10 goals in 142 games for the Magpies, is out of contract at the end of the season. "We can confirm that Steven Taylor is on the transfer list," said a club spokesman. Yet a spokesman for Taylor said: "Both [Taylor and the club] remain happy to continue negotiations over a new and extended contract. Steven was disappointed and surprised to hear through third parties that the club had decided to transfer list him."
He added: "He has always given 100 per cent to the club and will continue to do so, given the opportunity."
The Internazionale striker Victor Obinna is on the verge of signing for West Ham. An agreement has been reached to bring the 23-year-old to Upton Park and the Nigerian, who has scored 11 goals in 34 games for the national team, underwent a medical at the club yesterday.
Leicester City are close to signing midfielder Yuki Abe from Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan. The 28-year-old, who played all four games for the Japan side that reached the last 16 of the World Cup, will join the Championship club subject to a medical.
