Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Barnes set for Tranmere job

John Barnes is poised to become the new manager of Tranmere Rovers. The 45-year-old stepped down from his role coaching Jamaica in order to pursue the opportunity with the League One side. "I'm looking forward to it immensely," Barnes said. "I believe Tranmere can push on to the play-offs this year."

Mackay ready for top job

Malky Mackay is adamant that he is ready to step into management ahead of his appointment as new Watford boss. The former Norwich and West Ham defender will be promoted from the coaching staff at Vicarage Road to the manager today. "I can bring an honesty and an integrity to Watford," said Mackay, who will replace Brendon Rodgers following his switch to Reading. "I've been working towards this for the last six years and am looking forward to the challenge."

Midfield duo staying with the reds

Rafa Benitez has moved to dismiss reports that the midfield duo, Xabi Alonso and Javier Macherano are to leave the club. Both players have been strongly linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid this summer. Madrid's young strikers Alvaro Negredo and Alberto Bueno have been suggested as makeweights in any possible deal for Alonso. "Liverpool has received no official approach or offer from any club regarding the players," the Liverpool manager said. "Neither is for sale and furthermore Liverpool has no interest in the long list of Spanish-based players being linked with a move to Anfield as part of any deal."
