Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Barça in for Benayoun

Yossi Benayoun has distanced himself from a move to European Champions Barcelona, but admits he will have to discuss his future with Liverpool.

It has been claimed that the Catalan side have enquired about Benayoun, in the same week that fellow Reds midfielder Javier Mascherano was linked with Barça. "At the moment I am a Liverpool player," the Israel international said. "Unless something surprising happens, I will remain one. But after such a good season, I have had some offers from England and Spain."

Harry after Huntelaar

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has emerged as one of Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp's top transfer targets as he looks to bolster his attacking options. With both Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent linked with moves out of White Hart Lane, Huntelaar and team-mate Ruud van Nistelrooy are reportedly interesting the North Londoners. Netherlands international Huntelaar (right) scored eight goals in 20 games after arriving at the Bernabeu from Ajax last summer, but was left out of their Champions League squad in favour of Lassana Diarra. Redknapp has been tipped to revamp his squad after taking them from bottom to an eighth-place finish in seven months last season.

Bruce already buying

Ecuadorian striker Pablo Palacios could become Steve Bruce's first signing as Sunderland manager. The 27-year-old, who plays in his home country with Ecuadorian side Barcelona, is hopeful of securing his place in Ecuador's World Cup squad next summer, should the country qualify, by moving to the Premier League.

New contract for Fabianski

Arsenal have confirmed that reserve goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners in 2007 from Legia Warsaw. Despite spending the season as deputy to first-choice keeper Manuel Almunia, he made 18 appearances and kept nine clean sheets. "I'm very happy to sign my new contract with Arsenal," the Poland international said. "It's a big motivation for me to keep working hard and shows that the club believes in me."

Mcghee returns to the dons

Aberdeen have appointed former player Mark McGhee as their new manager. McGhee was part of the Dons side which won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983. "When you set out as a manager, you have ambitions," the 52-year-old (right) said. "One of mine was to manage the clubs I played for, Newcastle, Celtic and Aberdeen. I had great times here as a player and here I am fulfilling an ambition to come back as manager."

Muntari going nowhere

Tottenham have had an offer turned down for the Internazionale midfielder Sulley Muntari. "It is true Tottenham made an offer, but Sulley remains at Inter as they declined it," the Ghanian's agent, Fabien Piveteau, said. "He is very happy to play for Inter, and wants to continue to do so."
