West Ham are looking at Alberto Gilardino as they try to solve their striking problems, according to reports in Italy.

Although the Hammers have Andy Carroll returning to full fitness and Carlton Cole on an newly-extended they are thought to want to add to their forward resources.

Sam Allardyce was reportedly keen to sign the Italian striker on loan from Genoa in the summer but was unable to reach a deal.

Gilardino himself was also reportedly the target of a bid from Toronto FC, who wanted to pair him with new arrival Jermain Defoe, but he turned down the deal from the MLS side.

The 31-year-old striker has eight goals in 18 games this season and has scored 19 times for Italy over the course of his career.
