The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

Manchester United's pursuit of Cesc Fabregas has taken many twists and turns today. First it was reported that the Spanish midfielder was considering his future and had told his English friends that he was interested in returning to the Premier League with Manchester United; reuniting him with former team-mate Robin Van Persie.

However, just this afternoon a statement from Spain suggested that Fabregas is going nowhere. Barcelona's new manager Gerardo Martino has said that 'Fabregas will remain here' whilst the vice-president was quoted saying 'he's not for sale'.

There have also been reports that he will return to the Emirates for £25m

The Luis Suarez saga continues with the striker saying he would be happy for the Premier League to intervene in the disagreement over his contract between Arsenal and Liverpool. Suarez and his manager, Pere Guardiola, are hoping that this would allow them to begin talks with Arsenal.

At training today in Thailand the Uruguayan looked relaxed despite him claiming he is unhappy at the club.

Arsenal have been told that Bernard could be theirs for £21.6m by Athletico Minieiro's director Eduardo Maluf. This has prompted the French media to report that the Brazilian is travelling to London today for a medical with the Gunners. This deal could still be thwarted though by interest coming in from other European clubs for the young play-maker.

Manchester City will continue to spend despite having already totalled £90m this summer claims Manuel Pellegrini.

Tottenham's manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed today, in Hong Kong, that Gareth Bale and Tottenham are in talks over renewing the winger’s contract. This could end speculation that the Welsh midfielder is going to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Pepe Reina's interest in returning to Barcelona forced him to send the Spanish goalkeeper out on loan to Napoli. Gary Hooper today completed his move to Norwich City and Nacer Chadli joins Tottenham from Dutch club FC Twente.
