Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has confirmed he intends to stay with the French club following interest from Newcastle.
Grenier's agent, Frederic Guerra, announced on Thursday evening that his client would remain with Lyon, citing the France international's commitment to the club and an apparent belief he was being undervalued.
A further indication that Grenier would not be making a deadline-day move to the Barclays Premier League came when he appeared at Lyon's press conference on Friday morning.
Although Grenier would not rule out a late development, he underlined a desire to remain with Lyon, who stand sixth in Ligue 1 and are targeting a top-three finish.
"I think I will be there. In football everything moves very quickly, but I don't intend to leave. It's not a priority, even if the offers from big clubs make you think," Grenier said in the press conference, according to Lyon's website.
"I'm not someone who leaves like that. Lyon aren't in the right place but we're getting there. I want to stay here to think about my personal goals. The World Cup is one of my objectives."
