Chelsea are reportedly close to sealing a £25m deal for Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Jose Mourinho's assistant, Jose Morais, watched the Serbian play on Sunday in Benfica's 2-0 victory over rivals Porto, as the Blues stepped up their interest in their former player.

Matic left Chelsea almost exactly three years ago in the deal that saw defender David Luis join the club and is reportedly expected in England today ahead of a medical.

The 26-year-old was coy about his future when quizzed at last night's Ballon d'Or dinner:

"I still can't say anything about this, let's see what happens in the future, you have to ask the club and the president.

"If it's good for the club and for me, we'll talk, let's see what happens."

Stamford Bridge is awash with transfer activity at the moment, with Kevin de Bruyne reportedly on the verge of completing a £16.7m move to Wolfsburg.

The Belgian winger has reportedly agreed a five-year-deal and will also undergo a medical today.
