Premier League transfer round-up: Latest deals from the January window

The January transfer window is nearing its climax with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and more expected to be busy before the deadline.

Alexis Sanchez is finally a Manchester United player and made his debut as his new side swept aside Yeovil on Friday night. Jose Mourinho isn't stopping there though with a new central midfielder now on his shopping list. Arsenal are bedding Henrikh Mkhitaryan in but Arsene Wenger is keen to add at least one more new face before the window shuts with deals for Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and West Brom's Jonny Evans set to go down to the wire.

Manchester City are closing in on a new central defender with Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte set to arrive imminently while Chelsea's search for a new striker continues with talks over Roma's Edin Dzeko ongoing. Could Arsenal's Olivier Giroud arrive instead before the month is out?

We will have all the latest news throughout the day right here.

Arsene Wenger has been speaking about his latest signing in his morning press conference.

"He is a great footballer," he says of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

"I will know more about him in 2-3 days as we prepare and find out the best position for him.

"It doesn’t look like there will be any problems."

Manchester City are pushing to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred before the summer.

The league leaders are looking to add a No.6 as cover for Fernandinho with Yaya Toure likely to leave at the end of the season.

And the Daily Telegraph report that City fear the deal could ratchet up in price and want it done before the World Cup.

More from Wenger, this time on Aubameyang.

"I cannot tell you more. We have nothing to announce. At the moment, we stay where we are.

"We keep our players. We have added Mkhitaryan and lost Sanchez.

"Will anything else happen? At the moment, I don’t know. It is far from close.

"It is possible we will recruit someone else but I won’t give you a name."

Philippe Coutinho thanked his Barcelona team-mates and supporters for helping to ease his nerves as the club's record signing made his debut for the Catalan giants.

Coutinho replaced Andres Iniesta in the 69th minute of Barca's Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg against Espanyol and helped his new employers progress with a 2-1 aggregate victory.

The Brazil international joined Barca earlier this month from Liverpool in a deal that could reach £142m but a thigh injury prevented him from making his debut until Thursday evening.

Coutinho admitted he had been hit by a bout of nerves prior to coming on against Espanyol – the club he had a loan stint with in 2012 – but said the reaction of his colleagues and fans helped calm him.

Luke Shaw’s application has saved his Manchester United career, with his form persuading an impressed Jose Mourinho to drop his interest in buying a left-back.

There had been various points over the past year and a half when the Portuguese had been fed up with Shaw, often leaving him on the sidelines for extended periods and publicly criticising him.

The expectation was that the left-back would be available for sale in the summer, only to have to go undergo a surgery, and Mourinho still wanted to bring in one of Juventus’ Alex Sandro or Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose, even after the 22-year-old showed a renewed vigour on his return.

And even more from Wenger, this time on Olivier Giroud.

“I want Olivier to stay,” the Frenchman said. “If nobody comes in, nobody goes out.

“Maybe one or two young players out on loan but the experienced side of the squad stays.”

Sevilla want to sign Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi either on loan or on a permanent basis, although no deal will be sanctioned until Antonio Conte has an alternative attacking option.

The Belgian striker has struggled at Stamford Bridge despite scoring the goal at West Brom that clinched last season's title, and has never fully adapted to Conte's methods.

That has ensured the Italian has been reluctant to use him from the start in games, and it has created more of a problem for Chelsea given Alvaro Morata's current struggles in front of goal.

Lazar Markovic may finally find a way out of Anfield after the best part of three years in the wilderness.

The Serbian winger has not appeared for Liverpool since Brendan Rodgers’ time in charge, but according to the Daily Mirror, Lokomotiv Moscow are prepared to offer Markovic an escape route.

After Markovic spent last season on loan at Sporting and Hull City, Liverpool are understood to favour a permanent move but could allow the 23-year-old to leave on a temporary basis if Lokomotiv pay a loan fee and cover his wage demands.

Arsenal still want to sign Jonny Evans and will make a renewed move to bring the West Brom defender to north London this week..

Evans was a summer target for both the Gunners and Manchester City, and his refusal to sign a new contract at the Hawthorns means he is likely to leave in the summer if not by the end of January.

Albion are holding out for £20m for the veteran centre-back, even though a clause in the Ulsterman’s contract would allow him to walk for just £3m if they are relegated this season.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton will have to wait to give a debut to record-signing Jurgen Locadia as he prepares for Saturday's FA Cup clash at Middlesbrough.

Dutch striker Locadia, signed from Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven last week, will be sidelined for another couple of weeks with a hamstring problem.
