Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham Hotspur Manager Juande Ramos has hailed Giovani dos Santos as an "exciting signing" after finalising his move from Barcelona for an initial £4.7m. The 19-year-old Mexico international who signed a five-year deal, could cost £8.6m depending on appearances. Barcelona have retained the right to 20 per cent of any fee if the teenager moves on from Spurs in the next two years and 10 per cent if he is sold later in his contract.
Marseilles in for Boulahrouz
Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz is a target for Marseilles. The 26-year-old has spent the past season on loan at Seville but Eric Gerets, the French club's coach, admitted yesterday that he has asked his club's directors to try to buy the Dutchman.
Porritt agrees deal with Boro
Nathan Porritt, 18, who represented England at the Under-17s World Cup last year, has signed a two-year deal. A left-sided midfielder or striker, Porritt was in the news in 2006 when the BBC's Panorama alleged that the then 15-year-old had been offered to Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle without Boro's consent.
Barry presses O'Neill for move
The Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry has stepped up pressure on Aston Villa to allow him a move to Anfield. The England midfielder has phoned the Villa manager Martin O'Neill at the European Championship to plead for progress on the move and hopes a compromise deal can be thrashed out at around £15m. The Espanyol winger Albert Riera is another target for Rafael Benitez.
