Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tracey, 17, has also been coveted by West Ham and Crystal Palace.
The Daily Mail have reported that the club are poised to make Tracey their first signing in the January transfer window.
The report adds that the deal could be completed by the end of the week, with talks at an advanced stage.
Tracey had travelled on Spurs' pre-season tour of America, and had appeared for the club's academy side in an 8-0 win against Jacksonville Armada and a 3-1 win over Baltimore Celtic, scoring in each game.
Earlier in this season Ebbsfleet manager Daryl McMahon said: "Shilow has made a very impressive start to the season, as have a number of our other young contracted players.
"A number of clubs have spoken to us about him in recent days and we have given permission for him to trial with Spurs.
"The fact that a Premier League club is interested in one of our players says a lot about the quality of the coaching and management the boys are receiving and it reflects well on our academy set-up.
Just like his namesake Mousa Dembele, Fulham striker Moussa Dembele could make the move from Craven Cottage to White Har Lane.
Spurs have been linked a move for the 19-year-old Frenchman, whose contract with Fulham expires at the end of the season.
Dembele has scored 10 goals in 25 appearances for the Londoners this term.
Midfield target Adrien Rabiot is hoping to move away from Paris Saint-Germain, and is seeking a loan move in this transfer window, according to reports.
Rivals Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the 20-year-old, who has started nine Ligue 1 games this season.
