Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele for €60m (£55m) plus add ons, a club record transfer for the north London club.

Ndombele has signed a six-year contract and is expected to play a key part in the middle of Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season following the departure of Moussa Dembele in January.

The France international had impressed ever since his move from Amiens two summers ago, and last year earned a place in both the Ligue 1 and Champions League teams of the season.

He is renowned for his dribbling through midfield, his excellent ball retention, and the vision and technique to pick out key passes for his forwards.

Lyon have made a significant profit on a player signed for only €8m (£6.5m), while Amiens have also pocketed 20 per cent of the profits via a clause inserted into the switch.

Tottenham also confirmed the signing of Leeds United’s Jack Clarke on Tuesday. The 18-year-old winger, who joined for £10m, will return to Leeds on loan next season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side aim for promotion from the Championship.
