Gary Neville is not convinced Romelu Lukaku is worth the £75million that Manchester United are about to pay for him.

The Everton striker is set to swap Goodison Park for Old Trafford after United beat Chelsea to seal his signature.

United announced they had finally come to an agreement over a fee with Everton on Saturday morning.

Lukaku scored 25 goals for the Toffees last term but struggled to make an impact in big games and Neville has his reservations about just how effective he will be.

"He's incredibly talented and I've seen him destroy defences but personally I've never been his biggest fan. However he will score goals," he tweeted.

"He went missing in too many matches I saw, but with a better team and players around him he has an improved chance to deliver in big matches."

It is understood Chelsea had matched United's bid for the former Anderlecht forward, but the Premier League champions appear to have been pipped to the post.

News that a £75m transfer had been agreed for the in-demand striker broke on Thursday morning with United convinced they had agreed a fee with Everton insistent that was in fact not the case.

But now it appears a matter of when, not if, Lukaku will move in a deal that could be worth around £100m in total including add ons and bonuses.
