Manchester United have reportedly had Benfica's Renato Sanches watched in recent weeks and are moving closer to firming up that interest with a bid. The 18-year-old midfielder has impressed since breaking into the first team, alerting a number of clubs. With his contract running until 2020 and the player having a buy-out clause of £58.8m, Benfica are in a strong position if Manchester United do come calling. Reports suggest any deal is more likely in the summer rather than this month.

Chelsea hope to sign Alexandre Pato in time for the Brazilian to be able to make his debut against Arsenal this weekend, it's claimed. The former AC Milan player is keen on a return to Europe which has alerted a number of Premier League clubs. The Blues are leading the charge but will need to wrap up the £10m deal by midday on Friday if he is to face the Gunners on Sunday.

Pato is being signed to complement and cover current leading striker Diego Costa, however the Spain international is being courted by a former team-mate. David Luiz, who is now at PSG, says Costa would be welcome in the French capital. "Diego is one of the most clinical strikers in Europe, he would be a welcome addition to any team," the Brazilian defender told The Mirror. "I think PSG have made their intent clear over the last three or four seasons, that we only add the best players. If Diego decides he has had enough of England and wants a new challenge, of course he would be welcome here." Chelsea play PSG in the Champions League next month.

Newcastle's drive for new recruits in their quest to avoid relegation is set to continue, with West Brom striker Saido Berahino and Tottenham winger Andros Townsend due to arrive this month. That's what the Daily Express are reporting at least, although Magpies fans might not want to count their chickens considering Berahino is being linked with a host of clubs - the latest of which is Chelsea and Spurs are holding out for £14m for Townsend, arguably an over-valuation.

Sam Byram continues to be linked with a move away from Leeds United, with West Ham now leading the chase according to reports. The talented right-back had been in talks with Everton after Leeds accepted an offer of around £3.7m, however West Ham have now matched that bid and are hopeful of signing the 22-year-old who would prefer a move to East London.
