Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Petr Cech has hit out at the Chelsea supporters who sent him death threats on social media after he joined Arsenal this week, saying that they "are not true fans".
The 33-year-old left Stamford Bridge after 11 trophy-laded years to sign for Arsenal for £11m, and was soon abused by some fans on Twitter and Facebook.
He was sent death threats and labelled as a snake. One Chelsea fan in Kuwait posted a video of him burning a Chelsea goalkeeper shirt.
Cech has now hit back at those fans, saying: "The true fans have sent me messages that are pleasing and positive. True fans will appreciate what I've done and the legacy I've left.
"There are some people who have left me negative messages, but they aren't true Chelsea fans."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said of the move after it was announced: "Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us. He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad."
