Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has reported that the winger wants his future sorted out by the weekend, or he'll stay with Barca.
Barcelona are holding out for the winger's release clause of £22m, with reports suggesting that United have yet to bid over £17m for the player.
United's chief-executive Ed Woodward has flown over to Barcelona to speed up negotiations for the transfer, and was reportedly in the city before Barca's 1-1 Super Cup second-leg draw with Athletic Bilbao last night.
Having won the first leg 4-0, Bilbao secured the Super Cup 5-1 on aggregate after the match ended 1-1 at the Nou Camp.
Mundo Deportivo have claimed that United manager Louis van Gaal has urged Woodward to stump up the £22m fee to complete the deal.
Barca coach Luis Enrique has also claimed that he wants the situation resolved soon.
"It's a difficult situation, it's hard to be focused," Enrique said after the Super Cup second leg last night.
"I am just hoping that this damned transfer window closes once and for all to know which players I can count on. But Pedro gave his all."
Pedro, 28, has scored 99 goals in 320 games for Barcelona, and has won five La Liga titles with the club.
